Getting Started
Would you rather eat pizza or tacos for the rest of your life?
What are you excited about heading into the summer?
If you were given the power to lead the world for one day…what would you do?
Dig In
Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled (its verse 6 not 4! I had a brain fart…my bad)
What comes to mind when you hear the word righteousness?
Why do you think Jesus used the words, hunger and thirst when speaking in the midst of such a large crowd of people?
Discuss
In the video we shared that the idea of rightness can be understood as shalom/peace/harmony…things in the right place or in their proper order. In what ways do you see shalom/peace (almost) in our world? In what ways is this absent from our world?
How about your soul? If you feel comfortable, share a little about something in your own life that just isn’t the way its supposed to be. Maybe its a struggle that you just keep bumping into…maybe its a relationship that continues to cause pain…
What do you think Jesse meant when he said, “there is room in the gospel for us to have a bad day or to not have it all together”
Prayer
Remember the Beatitudes are rest not rules. Jesus has already completed all the rules so we can rest in Him. God has told us we are blessed when we sense certain things are not the way they are supposed to be…in that gut feeling that we have when we see injustice, or a homeless person, or in our own struggles…Jesus says I am on your side, I am with you even when you don’t have it all together.
Pray and thank Jesus for coming to the planet and beginning to put the world back together and allowing us to be in relationship with the God of the universe…and for blessing us when we don’t have it all together or have a bad day.
