Getting Started

  1.  Would you rather go to a movie alone or dinner alone?
  2.  Would you rather always say everything on your mind or never speak again?
  3.  Would you rather make a phone call or send a text?
  4.  Would you rather read an awesome book or watch a good movie?

Dig In

  • How would you describe your communication in your relationship with Jesus? Do you listen more or talk more? Do you chat often? Do you feel comfortable talking to Jesus, like a close friend? Do you ever pause to listen to what He has to say?
  • Would you say that you know what God’s voice sounds like? If so, how does He speak to you?
  • How important do you think it is to read your Bible on your own? Why?
  • Have you ever tried to read your Bible by yourself, outside of church? If so, how would you describe that experience? What did you take away from your time in the Word, if anything?

Discuss

  • Read Psalm 119:9-16 together. What stands out to you? Why do you think King David (the author) loves the Word so much? Have you ever felt this way about scripture?
  • In the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42), which sister were you more able to relate to? Why?
  • What obstacles prevent you from reading your Bible? What distractions keep you from hearing His voice? How do we begin to overcome those obstacles/distractions?

Prayer

  • Get into groups of 3 and pray for one another. Encourage your students to follow up with their prayer buddies throughout the week and keep one another accountable for spending time in the Word.
