A Few Guiding Thoughts

All of us have had some sort of an experience when we wondered where we’d fit in.

Asking “Where do I fit in?” is one of life’s biggest questions. It’s a question that will continue to come up, no matter what stage of life you’re in.

Belonging means you are safe to be yourself. Not the “you” that people expect you to be, but the “you” you actually are.

And because belonging can look like so many things, where we feel like we belong changes all the time.

Every day, situations happen that change our sense of belonging. And that can be exhausting. We feel like we’re constantly having to work to fit in where we want to fit.

Some Small Group Questions

In what ways have you believed that you don’t belong to God?  Have there been times in your life when you weren’t sure?  What was that like?

Have you ever felt like you didn’t fit in? What was that like?

Experts say after food, clothing, water, and safety are what we need. After that, it is to feel like we belong somewhere. What are some ways you have seen people try to belong or fit in?

Why do you think that when the early church got started it was important for them to make everyone feel like they belonged?  Where do you feel like you can be yourself the most? (Leader note: Pay special attention to the student who doesn’t have an answer to this question. Spend extra time getting to know them and making them feel like they belong in your group.)

Do you believe you can really be yourself with God? If so, how does that belief make your life look different? If not, why not?

How would you treat people differently if you believed everyone could be themselves and still fit it in with God and God’s people?

As a student ministry or small group, what are some ways that we can show people they belong when they show up on a Tuesday Night?

When this is done text the leaders using the group text that you are part of.
Have a great week!  See ya when I get back!
